Introduction to the Museum and its collections

The Nanni Guiso Museum is housed in a 17th-century townhouse located in the historic district of Palatzos Vetzos in the old town of Orosei. Once the noble residence of the Guiso family and later a barracks for the Royal Carabinieri, the building now hosts a diverse collection of vintage miniature theaters from across Europe, drawings from the Roman School (1930–1945)—a tribute from the notable donor to Rome, where he pursued his higher and university studies—alongside rare and ancient books about Sardinia, traditional costumes dating from 1880 to the present day, and Sienese artworks offered as a heartfelt homage to his adopted city.

A refined and passionate collector, “Don Nanni”—as he is still affectionately known by his fellow townspeople— donated in 2000 to the municipality the building that now houses the museum, along with a large part of his unique collection. The museum was the first to be inaugurated in Sardinia in the new millennium.
